Since
its early days, Creative Paper Tasmania has bees supportive of local
artists wanting to explore the many facets of paper as an art form.
We currently have two studios dedicated to our artists in residence
and regularly sell and display their work throughout the year.

The work of artists Pam Thorne and Ruth Rees is widely regarded
as “paper pushed to new boundaries” working
collaboratively, both Pam and Ruth specialize in capturing life
through their papier-mache sculpture.
Creative Paper Tasmania displays the largest collection of their
work in Australia and encourages you to “meet” their spectacular “Paper
People” when you visit.

Artists Statement
“
Our association with Creative Paper Tasmania began in early
1997. We share a studio there and together create life size “paper
people”.”
“
The construction process is a simple but time consuming one; handmade
paper, made on-site, is used in wet leaf form, it is applied with
paste to a galvanized wire armature and over the course of many
weeks the visualized person emerges. Work usually continues simultaneously
on several figures, and during their emergence they begin to develop
personalities and even become friends.”
“
The urge to create is strong. We enjoy making.”
